Shinjuku Central Park or Shinjuku Chuo Koen in Japanese is a small park located in the west part of Shinjuku district in Tokyo.

The most interesting thing about this place is that the park is a green heaven totally surrounded by Shinjuku skyscrapers.

It’s located just behind the huge building of Tokyo Metropolitan Government and famous hotels like Park Hyatt featured in the movie “Lost in Translation”.

This part of Shinjuku was actually a huge pond and a water treatment complex which has been covered in the late 1960s after Tokyo Olympic due to reconstruction of the Shinjuku district.

The park itself was completed in 1968.

If you come to the park during weekdays at lunch, the space is totally filled with office workers enjoying their lunch.

During the weekends, there are much more families with children, people skateboarding, dancing, and singing in the park.

During summer, there’s even a small pool for little children.

On some Sunday and Saturday mornings, there is a flea market in front of the fountain where you can find a lot of clothes.

From really cheap clothes to Japanese high brands, there’s everything.

There are many different trees and animals in Shinjuku Central Park to observe.
A small museum about the park’s natural life has a lot of explanations about them.

The park is also hosting a shrine called Kumano Shrine and many sports fields.

The most pleasant aspect of the park is that you can sit in the middle of ultra-busy Shinjuku, looking at the skyscrapers, but there’s only nature around you and absolutely no sound from the city.
Also, don’t miss the cherry blossoms at spring!

The closest station to Shinjuku Central Park is Tochomae on Oedo Line, but you can easily walk from Nishi-Shinjuku station, Nishi-Shinjuku 5-Chome station or Shinjuku station as well.
