
Osu Kannon is a very ancient Buddhist temple of Japan. Due to continuous destructions caused by natural calamities, this temple which was located in the Gifu prefecture was relocated to this place in 1612. The deity of this temple is Lord Kannon, the God of Mercy. The beautiful red coloured temple main hall and the pagoda aside it grasps the attraction of visitors from far ahead. A number of stairs lead to the temple main hall. At the ground floor of this building, there is a library that preserves many famous and ancient Buddhists writings. The temple yard has many statues, purification through, bell tower etc. Similar to Asakusa temple of Tokyo, large red lanterns are seen at the entrance gate, before the temple main hall and surroundings. This temple could be visited free of cost at any time of the day.


The main attraction of Osu Kannon that makes it one of the must visit sites of Central Nagoya is the Osu shopping street which is a mini-Akihabara in Nagoya. The vast Osu shopping arcade has hundreds of stores selling a variety of items. There are restaurants, textiles, souvenir shops, Anime and game corners, electronics shops and so on. This shopping street is the best place to select a variety of international cuisines too. There are Italian, Thai, Brazilian, Turkish, Chinese, Indian as well as many Japanese restaurants. Some recycle shops area also located on this street.


There is a flea market held here twice in every month, on 18th and 28th. During this time, the streets will be crowded with people looking out for buying good items at the lowest price. Anything could be found here during these days, including toys, antique wares, clothes, electronics etc. Spending some time in the market during these days will be really worth as you could pick the best from the displayed items.
