As spring starts approaching, many Japanese people start looking for outdoor activities to enjoy after a long and cold winter. When you think of spring in Japan, many of you might immediately imagine the beautiful cherry blossoms coloring the sky pink and bringing an absolutely astonishing scene to the nation.
However, there is one more thing that gets people going bizarre. That is, strawberries.
After the long winter, strawberries have grown into great sizes and it is just the perfect timing to have this beautiful treat of nature. Every year starting from the end of February to mid-April, we celebrate the arrival of spring with the best strawberries from around the nation in many ways.
Here are some of them that you’d like to take part in.
During this season, many strawberry farmers open their farm for people to come and pick their own strawberries. It is called “Ichigo-gari”, or strawberry hunting in Japanese, and it is one of the most popular events amongst children, as well as many couples and active people looking for outdoor activities.
Typically, you need to make a reservation to take part in this, but there are many tours designed for travellers to enjoy picking strawberries, so make sure to enroll in one of them if you want to full experience of spring in Japan.

Thought strawberries were only for dessert? Well, how about you check this lunch offer! At Hilton Tokyo, you can enjoy a full Chinese course of assorted dimsums made from strawberries.
The course is only served from February 15th to May 20th this year, so make sure to go have a bite of this oriental strawberry meal!

Or nevermind the unorthodox ways of enjoying strawberries, just eat as many kinds of strawberry desserts as you could possibly think of. At the New Otani Hotel, they are holding the Strawberry Fair where you would see more varieties of strawberry desserts than you would have ever imagined. The event will run until May 8th, so you have plenty of time to book your flight and hold a strawberry party.
