Dear friends, have you heard of emergency rice? One that doesn’t require heat or electricity to cook? For those of us to have lived long enough in Japan, we know that we have to always be prepared for natural disasters. Emergency rice is a staple that most people will have in their emergency packs as it provides nourishment and fills one up. In today’s article, I will teach you how to make emergency rice.
From the outside, the emergency pack looks like a normal vacuum packed product. Emergency rice comes in various flavors. This one has mushrooms and vegetables.
Upon opening, you will find some dehydrated rice and a plastic fork. All you need to do is to add water.
The rice can be cooked using either hot or cold water. Rice will cook in 15 minutes with hot water, and 15C water will cause the rice to cook in 60 minutes.
Fill the packet up with water to the indicated line. Reseal the zip lock, and wait.
Your meal is now ready. Emergency rice is surprisingly delicious, and due to its convenience, can be enjoyed anywhere, even during non-emergency situations like hiking!
