Japan’s 100 Yen stores are famed for selling not only cheap, but also very useful items ranging from kitchenware, homewares, food, as well as beauty products. In this series, I will embark on a journey to introduce some popular 100 Yen shops to you, as well as challenge myself to find the most value, as well as least value item in the shop. Ready to embark on this adventure with me? Let’s go!
Our first stop is Daiso. Famously known across Japan as well as South East Asia, Daiso is a rapidly expanding business; the first shop was opened in 1991 and there are now more than 1,300 shops in Japan!

I visited the newly opened Daiso store in Shibuya, located close by to the American Outback Steakhouse. I prefer shopping here to the Daiso in Harajuku because it is calmer and less touristy, but packs similar items. Do note, however, that there are not that many kitchenware items here so if that is what you are in the market for, you are better off in Harajuku!

Browsing around, I found a myriad of jumbled items and here are my picks for most value and least value!

Printing paper for photos. For just 108 Yen, you can buy 20 pieces of printing paper for photos! These are the glossy type that are ready to use.

Cloth signs for beer. For 108 Yen, you can buy a cloth sign saying “Beer!! Delicious!!!”. Great as a gag gift or if you are opening a bar but otherwise, I’d spend my Yen elsewhere.
What are the most and least value items you have found in a 100 Yen store? Please share!
