Different from the normal path which purposely created for tourist, Mitokusan is the path of practice. It gained its name because it is a sacred place for Shugendo practice. The founder of Shugendo, En’nootsuno has thrown up three lotus petals to the sky, and one of the three has dropped down to Mitokusan, and therefore Mitokusan has become one of the station for Shugendo practice.
Since it is a place of practice and the route has steep slope which need to be climbed uneasily, the clothing and shoes are checked strictly at the entrance.
