Daikanyama Shopping District
While the uber-hip mood hits you in the face, beloved by models and celebrities, Daikanyama can also offer up some unexpected traditional spots and areas of seasonal beauty. Behind Hillside Terrance sits Kyu Asakura House, everyone is welcome to enter this century-old home of a wealthy landowner that is now a national property.
Take your time to explore the interior or venture out into the immaculately kept gardens. The hilltop park of Saigoyama has stunning city views, especially during the cherry blossoms blooming season, the scenery is just magnifique.
Daikanyama Shopping Streets
As Daikanyama is located at the intersection of three main roads, the shops are mainly line up along them. However, that is not only what defines it, beyond the main streets, there is a maze of little pathways and alleys filled with interesting thrift shops and hipsters’ styles, fair trade products, big brand names and more.
Other than the Tsutaya Book Store and a classy Lush Spa store, there are a selection of international brands diversity: Jean Paul Gaultier, Paul Smith, Vivienne Tam, Tausche, Elodie Nelson Mason and A.P.C Surplus, and of course, local designers’ shops.

Fred Segal
An LA based luxe boutique which officially opened its doors in Tokyo, the 900 square meter shopping center is located along Log Road in Daikanyama. Fred Segal Man is the last building along the tree-lined footpath, offering a wide mix of men’s apparel, carrying designers such as Haider Ackermann, BLK Denim, Valentino and Adidas. The store will continue to evolve by rotating designers and bringing in international, emerging brands, many of which are not even available in their based shop in LA.

17 Dixsept is a boutique shopping mall and also a part of Daikanyama Station. Which has shops for your fashion needs, most of the fashion shops are local Japanese brand too, and for your grocery and ready-made food needs, the chain supermarket franchise, Peacock Store is here and also a pharmacy.

A few highlights in Daikanyama
Journey
This little piece of history was built in the Taisho Period around 1917. It was destroyed by fire after the last owners left in the mid-1940 and rebuilt in 1948. Today, it is a shop selling basics and accessories, mainly from the United States. The main attraction here is the gallery with pictures and explanations of the history of the building as well as Daikanyama.

Lift Etage
An art gallery that was reopened in 2010, which has been collaborating with fashion designers and artists concerning themselves with fashion, as you can imagine how fascinating it will be. Mostly European haute couture fashion is displayed elegantly in designed spaces, the visit itself is an experience.

T-site / Tsutaya Book Store
Popular all over Tokyo is the Daikanyama T-site, a neo-modernist building complex with several buildings connected by pathways and set in a small park. The buildings themselves features stone walls on the outside made from interlocking small “T” shapes, as a reference to Tsutaya – one of the largest book store chains in Japan and popular among locals, while also catering to international clientele, carrying books in English and other foreign languages.
