Gango-ji is located in the center of Nara town and assigned as one of the cultural property of ancient Nara. It is also assigned as one of the world heritage. If you refer to the map, you will notice that Nara town is between Kintetsu Nara station and JR Kyobate station. You can feel this traditional atmosphere only at Nara, since the old building of Nara are remained since Edo period. Compared with Kyoto, Nara town has less popularity, which you can be more relax travelling here. The oldest wooden building in the world: Horyuji

Horyu-ji is the temple which completed nearly 1,400 years ago and is known as the oldest wooden building in the world. Moreover, it is assigned as one of the world heritage in Japan, and is a very precious wooden building. You just have to get off at JR Horyuji station and take 20 minutes’ walk on foot from the station. If you take a bus after get off from train, you can reach Horyuji in only approximately 10 minutes. Horyuji is very wide and is divided into Saiingaran(west hall) and Touingaran(East hall). Besides, the golden hall which located in Saiingaran is one of the most important building for Horyuji. Once you get in touch with this history place with more than thousand year history, those troubles which has been annoying you will be easily blown away from your mind!

Access to Horyuji:

  • Approximately 20 minutes on foot from JR Horyuji Station, or take a bus ride of "Horyuji front door direction" and get off at Horyuji
  • From the north exit of JR Oji Station, take the bus of "Kokudo Yokota, Sharp front door, Horyuji front door direction" and get off at Horyuji
  • From Kintetsu Tsutsui station, take the bus of "JR Oji station", and get off at Horyuji front door.

Asuka village which is a village located near the central part of Nara prefecture. In the Asuka era which was approximately 1,400 years ago, this village is the place where the capital of Japan was situated, and the valuable historical building and grave have been remained till now. This is the only area in Japan where entitled to the full protection of the Ancient Capitals Preservation Law.

Japanese school students are often go to Asuka village for a school trip. If you want to travel slowly, Asuka village will be a recommended place for you. You are highly recommended to rent a bicycle at the front of Asuka station and sightseeing at your own pace. If you are not confident with your physical strength, you'd better rent an electric bicycle. Besides, you can also borrow a two-seater "ultra-small mobility" rental electric car, with a higher cost. The main sightseeing spot in Asuka Village is Ishibutai Kofun which is the largest Horizontal hole-type stone graveyard which could represents the ancient Asuka. Besides, you can visit Asuka temple, Inabuchi no Tanada, etc. Also don’t forget to try the strawberry which is known as the red gemstone in Asuka.
