Although not as well known as Shibuya or Harajuku, Daikanyama has begun to build a great reputation recently for its high-end fashion and popular cafes for bunch and more. Let's check out the places in Daikanyama where is popular among local people.

Daikanyama T Site

If there is one spot that is a must-visit, it has to be the Daikanyama T-site! What appears to be just a book store is in fact a huge facility that offers a café, restaurant, camera store, and more!

Designed by the Klein Dytham Architecture, the Daikanyama T-Site is considered one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world. The layout of the buildings, which are connected by the popular “Magazine Street”, makes getting from one side to another with relative ease as you enjoy the atmosphere.

If you want to stop by, the 1st floor is open from 7:00am to 2:00am 7 days a week and the 2nd floor is open from 9:00am to 2:00am 7 days a week as well. Relatively easy to get to from Shibuya, it’s no wonder it’s a popular hang out spot for both locals and tourists!

Daikanyama Hillside Terrace

Located close to Daikanyama T-Site, the Daikanyama Hillside Terrace is a multi-purpose complex that houses a great selection of restaurants, fashion stores, cafes, and exhibition galleries.

Constructed from 1967 to 1992, it took several phases to complete the Daikanyama Hillside Terrace under the guidance of architect Fumihiko Maki. Providing a great atmosphere with new exhibitions coming and going, it’s a great place to visit to see art works from local artists.

If you are planning on visiting one of the many shops, please be aware that many of them have different hours of operations. Generally, if you visit around noon, most of the shops should be open to customers and guests.

IVY PLACE

Known for their comfort food, IVY PLACE can be found inside the Daikanyama T-Site. They open from 7:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. everyday (the last order is 10:30 p.m.) and offer great pancakes for breakfast, and delicious seafood and pasta dishes for dinner.

Aloha Table Daikanyama Forest

Taking in the essence of Hawaii, the Aloha Table restaurant in Daikanyama is a popular place for locals to visit for lunch. Dishes for lunch start at around 1,000 yen for their premium Loco Moco or Tuna and Avocado Poke Bowl.

They are open from 11:00am until 11:30pm with last order for food at 10:30pm. It can get a little crowded due to its popularity, so it is highly recommended to make a reservation before visiting Aloha Table.

Blu Jam Café Daikanyama

Blu Jam café is only a stone’s throw from Daikanyama station and is a popular place for vegetarians and vegans. They are one of the few restaurants in Tokyo that offer an extensive vegan menu that is not only healthy, but very delicious!

They have a variety of drinks at reasonable prices, including their signature Crème Brulee Latte that is a local favorite. They are closed every Tuesday and hours are from 8:00am to 9:00pm last order.

Daikanyama Station

Daikanyama Station is easy to get to from Shibuya station. Just take the Tokyu-Toyoku Line that heads south to Yokohama and get off at Daikanyama Station. It’s only a stop away so it doesn’t take more than 10 minutes via train to arrive and start exploring!
