The museum itself is divided into a few general categories: the Edo area, the Haunted Mansion, the Trick Art Gallery, and the Puzzle Area. In the Edo period, you can take pictures of yourself balancing over a tipping pickle bucket, stealthily escaping ninjas, and engaging in sumo play.
The Haunted house is a mix of macabre and fun. You have to enter this area through a trap door, and the first thing you see is a relatively mild looking scroll ghost, turn right, and you might be shocked to see some monsters having a drinking party!
The Trick Art Gallery is filled with animal as well as famous portraiture that has a cheeky bent to it. Please do not forget to slip your hand into the Bocca della Verità, or mouth of truth. I promise that even the bravest of us will be shocked by the little surprised by the lion’s reaction to your hand.
The final Puzzle Area is composed of several well-known optical illusions. My favourite was the piece where one was required to find 12 animals hidden in the painting. While exiting, be sure to keep your eye on the ground, in case you drop any money on your way out!
