Let’s go to Hakuba, Nagano Prefecture which is famous for its powder snow!

Hakuba village is located at the foot of the North Alps, in the northwestern part of Nagano prefecture. It is crowded with North Alps climbers in summer and skiing & snowboarders in winter. It is also known worldwide by the good snow quality, "Powder Snow". Today, we FUN! JAPAN are going to introduce about "Hakuba" Winter 2018!

Hakuba is a sacred place for skiing & snowboarding!

In Hakuba Village there are 10 large and small ski resorts including "Hakuba Happo-One Winter Resort (白馬八方尾根スキー場)" which became the venue of the Nagano Olympics in 1998 and "Hakuba Goryu Snow Resort (エイブル白馬五竜)" which boasted for its magnificent view of North Alps. There are courses by level, such as beginner, intermediate and advanced in any ski resort, so it’s fine for both beginners and advance player. Furthermore, for those who have never tried skiing or snowboarding, rest assured as there are many ski resorts that host ski schools in English. The course fee is about 6000 yen for 2-hour group lesson and about 20,000 Yen for 2-hour private lesson. FUN! JAPAN reporter also seen many foreigner visitors participated in the lesson. It seems that participate in the lesson will bring big skills improment for beginners!

What is powder snow, the reason for its popularity among foreigners?

Hakuba is famous for its smooth, powdered and low moisture "powder snow". As you can enjoy a floating feel like floating on the fluffy snow, which attracted skiers & snowboarders from all over the world, thus, new word "Japan" + "powder snow" = "Japow" was born. Access from Tokyo is about 4 hours by car, around 2 and a half hour by Shinkansen and bus, it is recommended to overnight!

Hakuba village (白馬村) takes about 4 hours by car from Tokyo. If you travel from Tokyo station, take the Hokuriku Shinkansen and get off at Nagano station after a 1 hour 30 minutes ride. After that, change to "Express Bus Hakuba Line (特急バス白馬線)" (Alpico Kotsu/アルピコ交通) and will arrive at Hakuba Happo Bus Terminal (白馬八方バスターミナル) in about 1 hour and 15 minutes. It is a little difficult for a day trip, so accommodation is recommended. Besides, there are also "Express Bus Hakuba · Azumino - Shinjuku Line" from Shinjuku, "Express Bus Hakuba - Haneda Airport Line" from Haneda Airport and "Express Bus Hakuba - Narita Airport Line" from Narita Airport.
