Chitose and Lake Shikotsu Ice Festival

Shikotsu Lake Ice Festival, or Hyoto Festival, is a winter festival that celebrated annually in the mid of February in Chitose city, Hokkaido. Despite the scale that not really big as the one in Sapporo, there are still many things you can enjoy here. The festival is held near Shikotsu lake, from which you can see Mt. Eniwa with its beautiful ice cap.

In the festival itself, there a lots of ice sculptures with the variety of sizes and kinds. You can also find a human-made ice cave here! There are some stalls that sell local foods you can try inside to fill your tummy up. You could also try to ride a donkey. This place is quite enjoyable even for children.

On the last day they close the festival with the fireworks. Due to the freezing weather, winter clothes as thick jacket, hand gloves, head cap are necessary.
