NIIGATA Prefecture is located in almost the center of Honshu island on the coast of the Sea of Japan. It is only an hour by flight from Narita Airport and about 2 hours by Joetsu Shinkansen (bullet train) from Tokyo. Niigata has four distinct seasons throughout the year, which attracts tourists from South East Asia, especially during winter, as Niigata is one of the heaviest snowfall regions in Japan.
THE TOKAMACHI SNOW FESTIVAL (Tokamachi Yuki Matsuri)

Experience a fantasy snow world lit by thousands of candle lights! Only in Niigata with heavy snowfall you can enjoy this magical winter land. There are 5 exhibit areas and candles connect the roads between villages.
ECHIGO-TSUMARI SNOW FIREWORKS (Yuki Hanabi)

TAKADA CASTLE CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL (Takadajo Hyakumanin Kanoukai)

In 1909, 2,200 cherry trees were planted in Takada Park, a ruin of Takada Castle originally built in 1614. Now there are about 4,000 cherry trees and the light up of cherry blossoms during night is just startling.
