Five restaurants in Tokyo where you can enjoy traditional Japanese cuisine

This time, we’ll be introducing Japanese restaurants in Tokyo. Each restaurant provides you traditional Japanese cuisine. We will also be introducing some famous restaurants that have been awarded a Michelin Star.

Shiorian Yamashiro (栞庵 やましろ) in Ginza, Tokyo

Shiorian Yamashiro is a 3 minute walk away from Ginza Station, Tokyo. Many Japanese food lovers come to gather at this cozy space, which has a limit of only 6 counter seats. Here, they can enjoy the polite service which is a large part of the real pleasure of Japanese cuisine. The owner has trained at famous restaurants, and takes pleasure in observing his customers and serving them the best dishes of the day and so they can enjoy and have allied full experience.

Hanabusa (御料理 花ぶさ) with 50 years of its history

This restaurant has been around for over 50 years in Yushima in Tokyo’s Shitamachi area. A restaurant loved by great Showa era writer Shotaro ikenami was “Oryori Hanabusa.” With its long establishment and style, and its familiar downtown feel, the thing to enjoy is their simple Japanese dishes using plenty of fresh fish and seasonal vegetables. When you want to be closer to the guests, there is the counter, and when you want to entertain more people, their ornate parlor can accomodate up to 30 people.

Kappo Style Restaurant, Shoji (路地裏割烹 翔地 (ろじうらかっぽう しょうじ)

In the Shinbashi area of Tokyo, you will find “Rojiura Kappo Shoji,” an adult retreat from hustle and bustle of the city. Guests are entertained with a Hokkaido-born chef focusing on a luxury menu including Hokkaido crab and urchin. This is one place where one can enjoy the delicacy of Japanese cuisine and the unique flavors of the four seasons to your heart’s content. In particular, recently it has become popular for those traveling to Tokyo from the rest of Japan and abroad.

Kondo (和食こんどう), Japanese Traditional Style Restaurant

In Tokyo’s Yotsuya Araki-Cho, there is “Washoku Kondo,” which has been introduced in the Michelin Guide in the past. This isn’t a stiff Japanese place, but rather a place where you can enjoy it’s reasonable prices and charm. The strength of flavor of the ayu sweetfish from Gifu, the birthplace of the owner, the deep sweetness of Gifu’s specialty Hida beef… The Japanese approach to bring out the characteristics in a simple manner shines here. As they also have a rich supply of sake, we recommend it on a night when you want to have a good drink. Ichita (南青山 いち太)

This is “Minami Aoyama Ichita,” a Japanese cuisine shop found on Tokyo’s Aoyama Street. It is also a famous Japanese restaurant which has been introduced by the Michelin guide. With it high ceilings and open stance, it is a restaurant which overflows with hospitality. The item you will definitely want to try is the

Shine soba. Made with freshly ground, fragrant juwari buckwheat, it left me not wanting the meal to end. A tradition of taste in Tokyo, this restaurant has also gained a Michelin star.
