This is Fun Japan’s special feature introducing antenna shops located in Tokyo and this time, we will talk about Fukui’s Antenna Shop!
There are two Fukui prefecture antenna shops in Tokyo: “Fukui Minami Aoyama 291” and “Kingdom of Food, Fukui Store”. Today, I am going to walk you through the “Kingdom of Food, Fukui Store”, which is located in Ginza, and where you can get there either with just a minute walk from Metro Ginza Itchome Station or with a 5-minute walk from Metro Ginza Station. As expected, the store specializes in the food from Fukui prefecture.
Fukui prefecture is located in the middle west part of Japan facing the Sea of Japan, it has a great and astonishing seaside scenery. Fukui is famous for its dinosaur discovery as well!
Interior of the shop
When one enters the shop, the interior design gives you a cozy feeling. The brightness and the spaciousness gives everyone a positive impression, and the food sold there looks healthy and organic.
You can see “Daifuku red bean bread” at the entrance of the shop. This is the best seller in the store, reported several times by various television programs. “Daifuku red bean bread” is unique, from my perspective, in the way that it combines the concept of daifuku - a traditional Japanese sweet where the red bean is stuffed in the rice cake - , and the concept of bread. The texture turns out to be soft and chewy.
Another famous product in this shop is deep-fried bean curd, which is different from what you have tasted so far. Most Tokyoites are said to be surprised by the size of the bean curds sold here, which is bigger than that of a bare hand! The texture of it is firm and tender! It is even more delicious when you add some soy sauce onto it.
When you look for liquor made in Fukui, antenna shop is the only place aside from the Fukui prefecture, as said by the store manager. So if you want to find some limited and exclusive liquor outside the countryside, you should definitely go to the shop.
The is also a restaurant inside the shop. You can taste authentic Fukui food there. I ordered a bowl of fried pork rice. Both pork and rice are from Fukui prefecture. Unlike ordinary fried pork, the slices is thinner, crispier and it tastes more delicious when eaten together with rice. You might think that this dish will cost you at least 500 yen for such quality of the ingredients but guess what? It costs 390 yen only!
After visiting the Fukui antenna shop, I feel like going to Fukui for at least once. The atmosphere and the food there are just excellent!
