King of Fried Chicken "Kara-age Kun"

There are a lot of different things I like to have as a snack when I am hungry.

One of my favorite is “Karaage-kun”.

Karaage means fried chicken in Japanese.

I buy this at LAWSON which is a convenience store chain here in Japan.

This Japanese-style fried chicken nuggets were introduced 26 years ago.

I remember I made a quick stop to get some after school with my friends.

It’s ¥200 yen for 5 pieces, just the right amount for a snack!

It is so popular in Japan, that they sell over 500,000 pieces per day according to their website!

They use domestic chicken for their ingredients, which is quite impressive given the price.

Crunchy on the outside and juicy in the inside.

It is the perfect snack of all time!

And as the Japanese always do, there is a variety of flavors.

The three flavors in the picture above are the basic flavors.
Regular on left is a simple Japanese karaage flavor with a hint of soy sauce.
In the middle is Red, which is the spicy version with a subtle kick of chilli.
To the right is Cheese, which adds a cheesy flavor to the crust.

In addition to the regulars, LAWSON constantly features new flavors on the rack to keep their fans.
Here are some of the limited editions.

On the left is green onion flavor.
First thing you taste when you put it in your mouth is the sweetness from the green onion and its aroma goes right through your nose.
I think this was my favorite out of these three.

The center is soy sauce.
It is the typical flavor of Japanese style fried chicken with ginger and garlic.
When my mom makes fried chicken at home, she always makes it with soy sauce.
Needless to say, it is delicious!

Finally, to the right is tomato cream sauce with crab.
I know it is hard to imagine how it tastes like.
It has got a creamy flavor with a hint of seafood from the crab.

These are only a part of the limited editions LAWSON has offered.
So far, they have made 96 flavors!
Try to find your favorite one!
