When you visit Japan, you can enjoy not only the movies, but also have a glimpse into Hayao Miyazaki’s world through the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka! In my last post, I showed how to purchase a ticket in Lawson, as currently tickets to the museum are not sold in Indonesia. Today, I will show you what you can see in the museum. Do note that photography is not allowed within the museum building, so I will try to give a brief overview but show you pictures of the exterior.
Upon entering, the paper ticket you purchased at Lawson will be exchanged for a film strip entrance ticket. These film strips are actual footage for past Miyazaki animations, so be sure to take good care of them! There are three levels in the building. The first floor houses the cinema which plays a short created my Miyazaki. You can only watch this movie once so be sure to enjoy it to its fullest.
If you look towards the central hall, you will find The Haunted Clock Tower, a special exhibition that houses a staircase straight up to the third floor, where upon exiting, you will find the Cat Bus from My Neighbor Totoro! Children 12years old and below can jump and play around in this exhibit.
Outdoors on the top floor, one will find a giant Robot Soldier and replica Command Cube from Laputa Castle in the Sky. This is one of the rare opportunities where photography is allowed so be sure to take some photos here. When you get back down, do head over to the Straw Hat Cafe for a drink to cool yourself down.
The museum is a delight to visit and I highly recommend you to visit this magical place!
