This week’s FUN! JAPAN Word is a big event in Japan!

"O-hanami” (お花見)  literally means “watching the flowers”.

This is the word used to describe the act of going to admire the cherry blossoms in Japan.

Going to watch the cherry blossoms is one of the biggest yearly annual events.

Everyone wants to go to see the flowers, to have a walk or in the most popular way drinking and eating with friends or family under the cherry tree.

By extension “O-hanami” is also used to call the period of blooming.

Cherry blossoms are usually blooming around the end of March and beginning of April depending on the areas.
