This week’s Fun Japan Word is a very useful word if you travel in Japan.
“Ikura?” means “How much?” in Japanese and is used to ask for the price.
If you go in a shop and want to ask about the price, here is the question to ask :
“Ikura desu ka ?” (How much is it? How much does it cost?)
To be more precise you can also use:
“Kore wa ikura desu ka ?” (How much is this?).
There’s also a very polite version using the honorific prefix “o” :
“O-ikura desu ka ?”
Try to memorize the phrase “Ikura desu ka?” if you go to Japan, it might be very useful!
