Uketsuke is a very common word. It’s verb form, “uketsukeru” means to receive, or to accept. “Uketsueke” it is the Japanese word for information desk, or the reception.
For example, when you first enter a hotel, the front desk/reception is referred to as the “uketsuke”. It could also be the reception desk at a dental clinic, bank, or office, etc.
It is a very handy term to know while travelling, since most of the times that you might need help at hotels or other places, you can find the help you need at the reception. Being able to recognize the characters will also be useful since there is usually signage.
The one thing you will want to know how to say is asking where the reception desk is. The simplest way to do so is by saying “Uketsuke wa doko desuka?”. Don’t forget to review all the other useful phrases we’ve learned as well. You’ll be navigating Japan like a native speaker in no time!
