Everything has beginning and end. For example, when you visit Japan, in the beginning you feel excited and in the end you will feel sad and even do not wanna go home. Today, I want to talk about words describing beginning and end in Japanese: hajimari, owari (始まり、終わり)
Now let’s see the meaning of each word. Hajimari (始まり) comes from verb hajimaru （始まる） which means “newly occur”, “start”, or “begin”. Therefore hajimari can mean start or beginning.
Similarly, owari (終わり) comes from verb owaru（終わる）which means “end”. Therefore owari here means “the end”.
Hajimari and owari is antonym to each other. You can find other sets of antonym in Japanese such as asahi (朝日) and yuuhi (夕日) which means morning sun and afternoon sun, umare (生まれ) and shi (死) meaning life and death, and many more.
