[Fun! Japan Reporter] Seafood and Kimchi Shabu-Shabu!

Reporterd by Sunnyday

嵐 or Arashi which means storm is a new restaurant opened in Gurney Plaza, Penang, Malaysia. It is specialized in Japanese style of steamboat, commonly known to people as Shabu-Shabu. Shabu-Shabu refers to the thin meat slices that cook easily in the boiling hot water, like beef, pork and chicken. Well, this way of cooking meat in hot soup is therefore known as Shabu-Shabu.

Inside the restaurant, there are many tables, large and small, each with a small stove pot. Just pick a table and sit down, they will serve you immediately. First of all, you are required to select the broth you would like to have Shabu-Shabu with. There are Sukiyaki, herbal, Tomyum, milk and Kim Chi broths in the menu. If you love spicy soup, you could order spicy broth too! I ordered a savoury Kim Chi broth to cook Shabu-Shabu.

Look at the blue flame that looks just like the storm and I quickly got the idea of the restaurant name. Many Shabu-Shabu ingredients can be ordered from the menu, including meats, seafood, vegetarian food products, vegetables, mushrooms and fish balls. I really did not know which to choose as there are just too many dishes in front of my eyes.

The seafood set comes with some vegetables, mushroom, beancurd skin, meat dumpling and fish. There are Salmon and cod fish slices on the plates, arranged neatly along with other ingredients. While waiting for the soup to boil, I took some dressings from front counter.

A bowl of white rice is also included in this set meal. It is a perfect combination, rice, soup, sauce and various Shabu-Shabu ingredients. If you like vermicelli or noodles, you can pick it  instead of rice. The Kim Chi soup is so flavorful and it is hot, and when eaten with rice, it is so good. After placing the ingredients in the boiling soup, cover the pot with its lid till the foods are cooked and ready to eat. Remove them from the soup and eat them alone, or with the rice or with the dressing. The vegetables were so fresh, just like other ingredients. You can add on other side dishes. The Aburaage with pork soaked up the soup in the pot during the cooking process and was so tasty! If you like this way of meal, drop by to this restaurant and I promise you, you would not feel disappointed.
