Last year, I tried teriyaki rice bowl with half-cooked egg and Ebi Furai at Nippon Yataimura. It was super delicious as the rice was well-cooked and the prawns were crunchy and sweet, I could not get enough of it. I thought through a re-visit, I can try it again. However, the restaurant had renovated and changed its menu, and that dish is no longer available.
Today, it sells mainly Tonkatsu with ramen or rice, 豚 (ton) means pork while katsu means cutlets. They mainly sell ramen or rice with Tonkatsu, Char Siu(roasted pork), Teriyaki chicken or Teriyaki salmon. Sushi and side dishes like Sashimi and Takoyaki are also served.
I wanted to try Japanese noodle as I never tried Udon before, yet, I did not want to try Gekikara ramen which is one of their signature dishes. As I missed Sushi with salmon, thus, I ordered Sushi Udon set!
It comes with a bowl of Udon, fresh vegetables, Suika(watermelon), Chawanmushi(steamed egg), pickled radish, Sushi with Gari(pickled ginger) and wasabi and Shioyu(soy sauce). Looking at the dish that was served to me, I felt really well-treated due to the variety of ingredients.Udon was my first to try. The spring onion that garnished the soup gave a fresh and stand-out flavor that was so palatable with the delicious savoury soup.
Every ingredient had its role in the meal, even a small portion of pickled radish that gave a lingering sweet-sour note was a great appetizer! The Sushi prepared were salmon sushi and ebi roe sushi roll with a balance of tastes from the rice, cucumber, crabmeat, nori and the roes. Some roes had scattered to the plate. I quickly picked them up with箸or hashi(chopsticks) and put into my mouth because I did not want to miss them. Wasabi gave a raw, sweet and spicy tint, though I did not use too much. The pickled ginger was sweet and salty with strong ginger flavor.
I especially like the Chawanmushi because it was so creamy and flavor-rich. It is known as Chawanmushi because the food is steamed in a tea(Cha) cup(Wan).
惑い箸(madoibashi)! I really hovered my chopsticks back and forth while having this dish! Having a Japanese dish like this has always delighted me because it is a fusion of art and taste. The salmon fish was sliced very precisely and wrapped on rice. It tells us foods are not just what you put inside your mouth but food can also be a masterpiece that values beauty. There is also a balance of meats, noodles and vegetables, so you would not feel too full upon finishing Sushi Udon set.
