Craving for noodles, I stepped into 板蕎麦 香り家 (Ita-soba Kaori-Ie).
The wooden interior is relaxing, and my expectations for a good meal were heightening.

Choosing from the menu proved to be a little difficult because it was entirely written in Japanese.
However, I had the feeling that this was a good sign – the restaurant, already located off the beaten track, probably relies on local business rather than the tourist crowds.
After pondering, perhaps excessively, I chose the “鴨南蛮そば (kamo-nanban-soba)” – soba noodles with duck meat which costs 1,188yen (incl. tax).

As I waited, I poured myself some tea from the pot on the table.
The tea is made from soba leaves, and was perfect to quench my thirst after some morning tourism.
Soon, my lunch was carried to my table and after a few photo shots, I tucked into the noodles.

What stands out at first sight is the care and attention given to the presentation.
The vegetables are topped elegantly, and the few flakes of the yuzu skin (from a type of Japanese citrus) add an extra dimension to the colour and fragrance.
The highlight of this dish is the duck meat – it is not too hard, not too soft.
In other words, it was perfect.
The quantity of meat is also generous; I counted at least six pieces of meat which kept me satisfied throughout my meal.
While you might want to try the infamous local speciality 広島焼き (Hiroshima-yaki), this restaurant is a perfect place to satisfy your craving for noodles.

To get to Ita-soba Kaori-Ie, take the city tram and stop at the Hondori Tram stop.
From there, the restaurant is a short 7 minute walk.
Lunch is from 11:30-16:00 (last orders at 15:30), while dinner is from 17:00-24:00 (last orders at 23:30).
