If you have the chance to visit Japan in the cold months, you should definitely stop by at a Seven-Eleven to try their oden (おでん)!
You may be wondering: what exactly is oden…?
It is a winter dish popular in Japan, which contains ingredients such as boiled eggs, processed fishcakes and daikon (radish).
All of this is immersed into a warm broth, made of soy-sauce and dashi (=soup) taken from bonito flakes.
It’s a popular dish – partly because of its warmth and partly because of its low prices.
If you’re near a convenience store and want to order, here are the steps you need to follow!
Step 1: Take a bowl from near the counter and head to the oden counter
Step 2: Pick the oden ingredients you want using the prongs available
Step 3: Enter the queue until it is your turn to pay
Step 4: The shop person will calculate the price of your food, as well as pack it up for you
Step 5: Find somewhere to enjoy your warm oden!
