“Temaki Sushi (手巻き寿司)” is a Japanese food which we prepare vinegar rice, ingredients and seaweed separately in advance before the making process. Next, we put on the vinegar rice and then 2, 3 types preferred ingredient on the nori (seaweed). Finally, we wrap it in a cone shape. In Japan, we can often see “Temaki Sushi” when going for a family gathering, birthday party, or friend’s house party. The shape of the food which wrap everything and eat together is symbolizing the reunion of family. Today, we will talk more about this “Temaki Sushi”!

What are the ingredients used in “Temaki Sushi”?
The ingredients used for “Temaki Sushi” are seafood such as tuna, yellowtail, sea bream, squid, salmon, sea urchin, ikura, sweet shrimp and vegetable such as cucumber, lettuce, shiso, kaiware, etc. Besides, natto, tamago yaki (fried egg), umeboshi (salted plum), canned tuna and crab flavored fish cake are often used as the ingredients for “Temaki Sushi” as well. Seaweed is a necessity for a “Temaki Sushi”. Nori is a dried seaweed in a paper form, which used for “Onigiri” or as a “Furikake”. Japan is the country which consume the most nori in the world. The most suitable size of nori to be used at “Temaki Sushi” is "half-cut" of the whole piece size (length 21 cm × width 19 cm). How to wrap a “Temaki Sushi”
Once the ingredients, seaweed and vinegar rice are ready, you can start to make “Temaki Sushi” by following the below instruction:1. Put the vinegar rice on the nori(seaweed). Spread the rice into triangle shape to the left center part. The amount of vinegar rice cannot be too much as we have to leave some space for the ingredients.
2. Select 2 or 3 of your favorite ingredients to put onto the rice. It’s advisable to combine sashimi such as tuna or salmon, together with some green vegetable such as shiso and kaiware to make a colourful “Temaki Sushi”.
3. Wrap the ingredients and rice gently by roll up the left side of nori, and then the right side of the seaweed.
