How To Get There

When you get out of east exit of Ikebukuro station, go across the big intersection first.

After you pass the traffic light, go straight and you see “UNIQLO” on your left followed by a videogame arcade called “SEGA”.

When you get to “SEGA” look for a shoe shop called “ABC-Mart” on your right and go into the street along the store.

You will see another shoe shop called “Doctor Martens” and then a Kaisen-don shop, and there you see “Yakiniku Stadium JAN” sign.

Sukiyaki-like BBQ Beef

As the shop was underground there were no windows at all. The inside was spacious with all the seats being benches. The chandeliers helped lighten up the shop and it gave the place the young vibe and made it a hip BBQ place that welcomed youngster or people who wanted to come and have a fun BBQ time. My kids were very excited to see the big red daruma up on the shelf as well.

The first menu we ordered was the chef’s recommendation which is ミスジ,misuji which is the part from the shoulder blades of the cow. It is recommended that you grill it just briefly like rare or medium rare then dip it in raw egg just like Sukiyaki. It was very rare to eat your BBQ style beef this was and so you might not be able to try this elsewhere. I and my friends thought that the beef for this menu was a little fatty and so that with raw egg were a little too much for us. However every table that day ordered this menu and the Japanese seemed to enjoy this a lot so the menu did get its fame for a reason. If still you have lunch or dinner blank on your trip plan, it might worth to come a try for yourself too whether you have the same taste bud as the Japanese or not.

Sliced beef were lightly seasoned with sweet sauce. You can put lime juice as well. It was great in either way.

Another dish not listed on chef’s recommendation but came out good was “Harami”
Red meat can become a little tougher if it comes as a big chunk but the slices were so thin that they were very tender. I like them a lot.

The shop also offered free Wasabi and minced negi (Japanese leek) to eat with your meat. If you are bored with dipping your meat with sweet BBQ sauce or lime, I would recommend you to try putting a little wasabi on your meat for a new spicy taste in Japanese BBQ.

The other service that I liked about this shop was that when we ordered salad, the shop staff automatically asked in how many portions we wanted the salad divvied into. We did not have to waste our time trying to divide out the salad ourselves or quarrel over who will do the job. It really made our dinner ran smoothly.

If you are interested I recommend that you make a reservation in advance if it is on weekends. Once again, I guarantee that this place is great and worth all your time and every yen you spend.
