One of the best known restaurants because it has Michelin 3 stars
After watching the documentary “Jiro Dreams of Sushi” Many would be curious how his sushi taste like. Since his restaurant in Ginza is quite expensive and difficult to book, here is an alternative, lunch set at Sukiyabashi Jiro Toyosu branch, costs only 1,400 yen but limited to 25 servings per day.
Sukiyabashi Jiro Toyosu branch
In a quiet residential area of Toyosu 4-Chome, there is a branch of the famous Jiro Sushi. Only 5 minute walk from Toyosu Metro station, you can find the restaurant on the first floor of an apartment building. The restaurant is run by chef Daisaburo, who had worked with Jiro at Ginza branch for 10 year before he finally got a permission to use the name “Sukiyabashi Jiro” and started his own restaurant in Toyosu.
Service Lunch Set
So-called “service lunch set” starts from 11:30 but I recommend you go early since it is very famous among office workers and locals. Reservation for lunch is not available, so you need to be there and wait in line and the door will be closed as soon as all 25 seats are filled.
There are 9 seats at the counter and 2 tables. The interior of the place is similar to a cozy street sushi restaurant rather than fancy main branch in Ginza. Once you enter the restaurant, you don’t have to order anything, just sit and wait, the waitress will arrange a seat for you and the same lunch set will be served for everyone.
This is appetizer. Then the chef will serve 10 pieces of Nigiri sushi one by one in front of you. They vary seasonally.
Finish with 2 kinds of roll sushi, miso soup and tea.
I thought the portion is big for lunch. About the taste, I would say that the sushi rice has strong vinegary taste than other sushi restaurants. Many say this is Jiro sushi style. In my opinion, only 1,400 yen and you can get this quality lunch, it is really worth. Also this should be a good experience to try Jiro style sushi without going all the way to the main branch.
