A thousand winds of ramen in Kyoto, Sen no Kaze

Kyoto Style Ramen Tastes Good

Sen no Kaze, a Kyoto style ramen is as good as it had to open another branch in Hiroshima. The shop is located in Shijo-Kawaramachi, which is a downtown shopping area in Kyoto, yet it is hidden in a small street that is loaded with delicious stuff.

Once you enter the shop, you will find counter seatings, and a few tables. The lighting might be a bit dimming, but it suits well with the decoration style, and jazz music in the background.

They Have Tonkotsu, Assari, Vege and Even Halal Menu

The soup that Sen no Kaze has to offer are Tonkotsu and Assari soups. Tonkatsu is a pork broth, that is rich in collagen, creaminess and flavour. While Assari is a clear seafood-based broth. Although both soups are rich in flavour, they are not too heavy or overpowering. The ramen noodles are chewy and resilient. I would recommend you order a set menu. Rice can go very well with the ramen soup, too. And gyoza is a spot on. Crispy skin, and juicy fillings.

The shop also has Halal and Vege menu, which I find it very considerate to have menus that suits everyone's preference.

The Best Ramen is the Kyoto Style Salted Soup Ramen

In this photo is a spicy ramen that I ordered. "Piri Kara Miso", a miso-based soup and a lot of chili. It might appeal to be too spicy for Japanese food, but the flavour is just well executed and well balanced for me. Pork slice chashu is perfectly seasoned, and so tender that it melts in my mouth!

But the No.1 Popular menu that the shop recommends is "Kyo No Shio Ramen", which translate to Kyoto style salted soup ramen. It is a classic pork broth, topped with Chashu pork slice and vegetables.

They English Menu for You too

The shop usually has long queue, especially during lunch. Maybe you might want to go a little later in the afternoon if you don't like waiting. More importantly, the shop's website and menu are provided in English! No more confusion from language barrier and let's go have some Ramen!
