Special Cup Ramen in Japan

First invented in 1958, instant noodles not only tasty, but it is also quick and easy to prepare. In 1971, Cup Noodles, which is simply dried instant noodles inside a foam cup for easy carriage, was introduced by Nissin. From then, the evolution of instant noodles has never been stopped. Both instant noodles and cup noodles are most consumed in China and Indonesia, which they dominated about 50% of instant noodles consumption in the world. When it comes to the birthplace of instant noodles, Japan’s consumption in instant noodles are not as high comparatively, but its approach and creativity would shock the world.

In Japan, limited editions snack and food are overwhelmingly popular as a lot of them consist of unique flavor that you can only buy during a certain period. The same apply for instant noodles and cup noodles, as unique flavour and sometimes, VERY UNIQUE flavour are made.

1. Chocolate Flavoured Yakisoba by Peyoung

Unlike normal yakisoba or any other cup noodles flavour, this chocolate flavoured yakisoba completely changed the definition of what this food genre could be. The main differences of this version are the chocolate sauce and toppings of dried raspberries with croutons that came within.

So simply pour in hot water and drain it after 3~4 mins, put in the chocolate sauce, mix well and finally top it with dried raspberries flakes which I think they want to make it looks like pickled red ginger you usually get in regular yakisoba. As you can imagine, it was sweet yet not as sweet as I thought it would be. The taste of chocolate however, ran over the taste of raspberries toppings. One thing I do like about this yakisoba though was the croutons. They stayed surprisingly crunchy even being mixed and soaked with chocolate sauce. This yakisoba however, is a limited edition so it might be hard for you to find it in normal supermarkets or convenience stores since it is a Valentine’s special. Don-Quixote might have them in stock, but that also depends on the store. Overall, I would give it a 5/10, but it is worth trying if you like something different.

When I saw it on the shelf at my local supermarket, I told myself that there is nothing more regrettable than not giving it a try.

As you can see, it looks pretty much like any other ordinary cup ramen and it tasted just like what the package descripted- tomato. The soap of this product tasted slightly lighter than other ramen with a little hint of sourness and I am guessing that would be the taste of probiotics or lactic acid.

I was slightly disappointed since there wasn’t really a distinctive taste for this product as it tasted just like other normal cup ramen. However, the taste was actually decent when you see it as a normal cup ramen. There is also a Curry-Yogurt ramen for this series but I think that will take a lot of courage to try it out. So here it is, a report of two very special cup ramen that I encountered recently. There are also a lot of different limited edition cup ramen out there, so don’t hesitate to bring one back to hotel room and give a try!
