Unaju is the most well-known unagi cuisine. Basically, ells on rice are seasoned with Kabayaki Source which is sweet soy sauce-based source.

Apparently, a difference between Unadon and Unaju is only a bowl, but from some theories, it’s generally said that the quality and amount are totally different.

Hitsumabushi is known as Nagoya city’s local cuisine. Nowadays, this cooking way spreads to entire Japan.

Seasoned eel is cut beforehand. By moving it to other bowl, you can enjoy it with various seasonings flavor. I recommended eating with three steps, first, eat just as it is, then with seasonings, and lastly pour soup!

Unagi sushi is popular food in Osaka. In fact, you cannot see eel sushi in Kanto area except one place. The place you can easily find an unagi sushi in east Japan is conveyor belt sushi restaurants! The above photo are taken in a conveyor belt sushi restaurant. On average, the price is 100~200 Yen. Compare to other eel foods, you can eat cheaply, yet, it’s of course delicious! Unag is often regarded as high-class cuisine and are sold at high price. However, it used to be known as a local food!

Junky eel snack: Unagi Pie

Last one is a reasonable unagi food ‘Unagi Pie’.

Unagi Pie is a snack made with an eel extract. It tastes like eel Kabayaki Source. Being ranked as one of three top local souvenir in Japan. Regardless you like an eel or not, you’ll love the taste!
