Vegan Restaurants in Tokyo

Travelling to Japan as a vegetarian or vegan are sometimes frustrating because a lot of seasoning in Japanese cooking involve fish products. However, we have you covered. In Tokyo, there are so many restaurant choices and you never need to give up what you want to eat. Today I would like to introduce 3 vegan restaurants you might like in Tokyo.

T’s Tan Tan

T’s Tan Tan is a vegan ramen restaurant in Tokyo station. Usually ramen is made with pork, chicken, or fish broth for its soup, so vegans or vegetarians had to give up eating ramen most of the time. However, T’s Tan Tan’s ramen soup only use vegetables and sesame for the broth while their Karaage is also made of soy bean. The taste is just like other ramen and I cannot tell if it is vegan menu.

You can find T’s Tan Tan in the Tokyo station on the way you reach to JR Keiyo Line. Because it is inside of the station gate, they have a long line during dinner time. I recommend you to go there during lunch time or weekends, so you do not need wait for a long time.

SASAYA Café

SASAYA Café is 10-minute walk from SkyTree or 15 minute from Kinshicho Station. On the way to the café, you can enjoy beautiful SkyTree view. The location of the Café is by a riverside park and you can enjoy its quiet atmosphere even you are in Tokyo. Most of their menu are using organic ingredients, and besides meals, they have desserts like muffins and scones.

I ordered Indian Mini Meals. It comes with two kinds of curry, rice, and vegetable side dishes. They also have menus using tempeh and hummus. You can make your meals To-Go so I think it’s a good idea that you have your lunch or snack in the riverside park when it's good outside.

There is a little shop inside the café that sells organic food and other eco-friendly items.

8ablish

Just few minute walk from Omotesando Station, you can find the restaurant 8ablish. Because Harajuku and Omotesando area is characterized by its diversity, there are a lot of vegan/organic restaurants around. 8ablish is opened in September, 2015 and it is already popular. Even I went there on Tuesday night, the restaurant was filled and half of their customers were foreigners. The inside of the restaurant is really stylish that you can feel Tokyo’s fashion street “Omotesando”.

I ordered “Today’s soup” and “Today’s pasta”. They give you hand-written “Today’s Special” menu when you are seated.

“Today’s soup” was burdock and lentil beans potage. It tastes really rich and I cannot tell if it is vegan just by the taste.

“Today’s pasta” was beats leaf spaghetti. Beats color makes the dish look good and Kalamata Olive makes your stomach satisfied.

They also have dessert and take out shop called “Pure DELI & STORE” so you just stop by and get your snack.
