Casual Tempura On Sticks

※This article was published at August 2015.※

I am secretly obsessed with deep fried foods. French fries, onion rings, fried chicken, and tempura. I know they are greasy and high calorie foods but I just can not resist! Crunchy and tasty. Especially tempura...which is my favorite. But the problem is that I can’t cook tempura for myself at home. When I go out to eat authentic tempura, it is a little too fancy and pricey for me.

I want to be able to enjoy tempura more casually.

This little restaurant I found solved all my problems.

Muteppou is an izakaya style tempura restaurant located in Meguro, Tokyo.

Its appearance is authentic already and feels very welcome.

The sign outside says “Tempura on sticks.” I’ve heard of chicken on sticks(yakitori), but not tempura on sticks. I’ve got to go and try some.

It has its own warm atmosphere with a selection of Japanese sake decorated on a walls.

There is a blackboard on a wall which says “Wishing everyone in the world to enjoy Tempura.”

Sounds like a perfect place for me.

Here comes the Tempura I ordered!

Seafoods like shrimp and white meat fish were so fresh. Oyster wrapped with Japanese herb called “Shiso” was simply perfection. Other vegetables like asparagus and lotus roots were crunchy and flavorful.

Everything was entirely delicious.

I didn’t go for a glass of sake this day, but I am sure they go great together.
