If you go to do some tourism in Kawagoe and if you like Japanese snacks, candies, and retro toys, don’t miss giving a visit to the shop Edo-ya!

Edo-ya is a dagashiya, an old-fashioned candy and snack shop.
There were dagashiya in every Japanese neighborhood before, but with the growth of supermarkets and convenience stores, they almost disappeared.

Edo-ya is located near kashi-ya yokocho (“alley of candy shops”) in Kawagoe’s historical district Koedo.

When you enter Edo-ya, you’ll be surrounded with candies, snacks, and toys from floor to ceiling!

Be sure to hear customers shouting “Natsukashii!!” (“How nostalgic!”) every 10 seconds.

Here are some goldfish related tin toys.

Floating goldfish to play in water during summer.

That’s cute enough as an accessory for interior decoration, I think.

Small and big decorated buckets. There are scoops as well on the bottom.

Those wooden toys are called Daruma-otoshi.

Use the hammer on the top to make colored rings fall in a special order without making the Daruma face fall.
