Otonashi park is a small but beautiful park located in Ôji in northern Tokyo.
Just walk five minutes from the very busy Ôji station and you’ll be there, in a haven of trees and peace.
The Japanese name is Otonashi Shinsui koen.
The name of the park Otonashi, literally means “No-sound”.
The river you see in this picture is the Shakuji river, the one coming from Shakuji park we presented before.
It goes straight into Arakawa which is one of the biggest rivers in Tokyo.
Sounds really calm!
The park itself is now surrounded by buildings, but since there are some many trees around, you’ll almost forget that you’re in the middle of the city.
You can see the train passing in the background!
There are many cute Japanese traditional bridges.
Since there are a lot of rocks or benches to sit in, many people eat their lunch at the park.
Sounds nice!
The strange shape of the garden is due to the fact that this place was used as a dam during Edo period.
There are many trees in the park, especially cherry blossoms.
You can easily imagine that it would be breathtaking at spring.
Also there are many maple trees, “momiji” in Japanese.
Now the leaves are still green and brilliant, but as we get closer to November they’ll turn bright red.
Don’t miss this wonderful scenery if you’re in Tokyo in November.
I think I’ll go back there to see it.
This garden is protected as one of the “Best 100 gardens of Tokyo”.
Don’t miss having a refreshing walk in Otonashi park if you come to Tokyo.
It’s very close to Otonashi shrine and the big Asukayama park, if you want to discover more in this area.
