About Antenna Shop
Toyama (富山) is 2 hours and 10 minutes away from Tokyo by Hokuriku Shinkansen (北陸新幹線). Because Toyama prefecture is facing to Japan Sea, you can enjoy delicious seafood. Also, Toyama is famous for yummy rice. Since the Hokuriku Shinkansen was opened in 2015, more and more tourists come to Toyama and it has been getting popular because of its existing “Old Japan” atmosphere. If you have time to visit there, that is a great choice to go there by Hokuriku Shinkansen from Tokyo. I am sure you can experience another Japan than Tokyo. If you do not have time to go there, don’t worry. There is Toyama Antenna shop in Yurakucho (有楽町), Tokyo.
Where is it located?
Iki Iki Toyama Kan (いきいき富山館) is in the basement floor of Tokyo Totsu Kaikan (東京交通会館) that is located in front of Yurakucho Station. The shop has a lot of Toyama’s signature food and holds related event every month. When I went there (end of April 2017), they are doing a live show of “Masu Sushi (ます寿司) Making”. Masu means trout, and Toyama is famous for it.
Masu sushi is made with exclusive wooden box for pressing and came out with the shape like a cake. Usually it would be cut in pieces and eaten.
At Iki Iki Toyama Kan, you can also buy them that in cut piece. There are not only Masu (trout) sushi, but also shrimps, eels and others. They cost from 130 to 250 yen so you just can try and find your favorite sushi.
I bought original “Masu” and #1 popular item “Broiled Toro”. The rice is seasoned with sushi vinegar like other sushi. It was so yum and good with Japanese green tea.
Toyama is also famous for Hotaruika (literally means firefly squid) and usually it is eaten pickled with sweet soy sauce.
You can also buy rice from Toyama at the shop.
And of course, where delicious rice exist, there are yummy sakes also. They have bunch of select of sake from cheap ones to expensive ones.
Toyama Black is one kind of ramen started in Toyama and is awarded 5 times at Tokyo Ramen show and you can get the ramen pack. As you can see “Black” in its name, the soup is literally black with soy sauce, chicken and fish stock soup. It actually tastes light.
2 hour shinkansen ride must be fun, but you can still enjoy the Toyama taste without a long travel. It is just 2-minute train ride from Tokyo station.
