Me and my son are one of the cats lover. It has been a long time me and my son wanted to have a cat, but my husband doesn`t allow it because of many reasons. My husband is really afraid whether the cat will scratch the wall, because most of the walls in Japanese House are coated with wall paper which easily scratched. Therefore, me and my son become so often visiting cat café and playing with cats.
Most of Cat Café in Japan don`t allow children go inside the Café, so i often browse in the internet and looking for a Cafe that allows children to enter. Finally I found “Neko Katsu”, Cat Café located in Honkawagoe, Saitama. The place is not too far from the downtown. 5 minutes on foot from Honkawagoe station.
The Place
This café is so special, different with the other Cat Café I`ve ever visited. Here, children can enter and hold the cats in the Café. The cats inside this Café are wild cats that has been caught and protected from extermination. In Indonesia wild cats are free living outside, different with Japan. Considering to the health and hygiene reasons, Japanese government implemented regulations to kill the wild cats in Japan which doesn`t have a person who take care of it.
According to the data on 2014, in a one year the cats that has been exterminated reached until 79, 745 cats. The cat lovers in Japan are trying hard to protect the wild cats that in danger. They think that wild cats have a same right to live, sama like the other animals that has a person who take care of them. “Neko Katsu” was built by volunteers who want to protect the wild cats in Japan.
The cat`s feathers in this Café maybe not so beautiful comparing with the other cats in the others Café or pet shop, but i`m sure if you see their cute and adorable face, their fat bodies and round tails will make you can`t stand to hold them soon. We also can adopt the cats if we really like them. But the procedure is not so easy as I thought. A person who want to adopt them must prove to the volunteers whether he or she really can take care of the cats. Before adopting, there is a trial period to make it sure that the cats will be take care by the right person who really love them.
The entrance fee is not expensive. 600 yen for 30 minutes, and 1000 yen for 1 hour including drink. We can choose the drink from refrigerator inside the Café. On a weekday, we have a chance to feed the cats here. Relaxing in this café can make our weariness and stress suddenly gone. I think this place is worthy to visit when you are in Japan. We can learn important things about Japan besides visiting famous tourism place.
