Among Japanese sweets, Manju is my favorite. Manju is similar to the traditional Indonesian sweets. It is a kind of steamed cake and filled with stuffing paste. Original Manju’s filling is sweet red bean paste, but lately, the filing can be varied, such as; cheese, sweet potato, chocolate and others.
After searching on the internet, I found Mugimaru2 (Manju Cafe) which located in Kagurazaka area. I chose this cafe because it is said that this cafe’s manju is delicious and cafe owner has a cute cat.
I was looking for the cafe location by using google map application. For the first time, I missed the cafe because the front of the cafe building is surrounding by vines.
While I was standing still in front of the building, a chubby cat walked toward me and entered the building. It seems this is the cafe that I was looking for.
There was a menu board outside the cafe. I saw "Manju all 180 yen" words were written in English. The varieties of manju were written in Japanese character, which are: cheese, chocolate, sweet red bean paste, sweet sesame paste and so forth.
I came in and the cafe owner asked me to go up to the second floor. There are two tables for two persons in the first floor. After taking off my shoes, I climbed to the second floor. I looked around the room. There were one kotatsu table (table with a heating element) for 4 persons, 2 long tables for 4 persons 1 round table for 2 persons.
When I came, there were already two couples who were sitting at the kotatsu table.Ten minutes after I arrived, two ladies appeared, followed by one couple of man and woman.
I chose a seat at a long table near the window and a heater. Five minutes later, the cafe owner came and asked for my order. I ordered a cup of cafe au lait and 2 pieces manju (cheese and sweet red bean paste stuffed). With price 180 yen for one manju maybe a little bit expensive but I don’t mind with because this cafe’s manjus are delicious and no-preservatives added. I ate those 2 manju within 10 minutes, and I wanted to try another manju. I ordered 2 manju again (chocolate and cream cheese stuffed). If you don’t have time to eat here, you can ask the takeaway. This cafe is really worth a visit.
