What is the "Setouchi Triennale"?

The "Setouchi Triennale" is a contemporary art festival held once every three years on the islands of the Seto Inland Sea. The approximately 100-day event is divided into three seasons—spring, summer, and autumn—allowing visitors to experience the charm of Setouchi throughout the changing seasons.

This internationally renowned art festival attracts around one million visitors from Japan and abroad. As they explore the islands guided by art, visitors can interact with artists, local residents, and volunteer supporters while discovering the beauty of Setouchi’s landscapes, nature, history, culture, daily life, industries, and cuisine. This unique experience resonates with many.

The Setouchi Triennale has also gained global recognition, being featured in prestigious international publications. With the theme of "Restoring the Sea," the festival aims to revitalize the islands of Setouchi, where nature and humanity have harmonized for centuries, and to establish the Seto Inland Sea as a "Sea of Hope" for the world.

"Setouchi Triennale Museum Collaboration Project" Held at Eight Museums

The "Setouchi Triennale Museum Collaboration Project" is an initiative where eight museums in the host regions will hold exhibitions primarily featuring Japanese artists. Participating museums from Kagawa, Okayama, and Hyogo prefectures include "Kagawa Prefectural Museum," "Takamatsu Art Museum," "Marugame Genichiro-Inokuma Museum of Contemporary Art," "Naoshima New Museum," "Okayama Prefectural Museum of Art," "Ohara Museum of Art," "Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art," and "Yokoo Tadanori Museum of Contemporary Art."
