The Theatrical Pre-Release "Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-" to Premiere Worldwide in 2025
"Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX" is scheduled to air on the Nippon TV network, but before that, a special theatrical pre-release version, "Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-," featuring restructured episodes, hit theaters in Japan on January 17, 2025. Since this project is a collaboration between Studio Khara, known for the "Neon Genesis Evangelion" series, and Sunrise, the powerhouse behind the Gundam franchise, it had already gained significant attention among fans before its release.
In just 10 days, the film grossed ¥1,432,790,000 at the box office, attracting an audience of 856,000, and ranked No.1 in weekend box office sales for two consecutive weeks (according to Kogyo Tsushinsha). Additionally, it has been confirmed for release in the United States starting February 28, 2025. Further screenings have also been scheduled in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Thailand, Australia, and New Zealand.

The Story of "Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX"
Amate Yuzuriha, a high school girl living peacefully in a space colony, finds herself caught up in an illegal mobile suit dueling competition called "Clan Battle" after meeting a mysterious girl named Nyaan.
Under the entry name "Machu," Amate pilots the GQuuuuuuX (Zieg-Ax) and plunges into fierce battles. Around the same time, a mysterious mobile suit known as "Gundam," pursued by both the space military and the police, appears before her, along with its pilot, a young boy named Shuji.
And so, the world stands on the brink of a new era.

Her real name is Amate Yuzuriha. A high school girl who, deep down, has always felt that her peaceful life in the colony was somehow artificial. After meeting Nyaan, she becomes the pilot of the "GQuuuuuuX" (Zieg-Ax) and joins the "Clan Battle."
Nyaan – Voiced by Yui Ishikawa
A girl who works as an illegal courier. When her homeland became a battlefield, she became a refugee. As a young child, she had no time to check on her family's safety and was forced to escape the colony alone in a Petit Mobile Suit. Fortunately, she was picked up by a ship that brought her to the colony where Machu lives. Her top priority is survival.
Shuji Ito – Voiced by Shinba Tsuchiya
A mysterious boy who appears before Machu and Nyaan. He is wanted by the military police for painting graffiti on the outer walls of various colonies. To achieve a certain goal and earn money, he joins the "Clan Battle" and becomes Machu’s "Mav."
When Will "Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX" Air on TV?
As of February 18, 2025, the only official announcement is that it will be broadcast on the Nippon TV network. We will update you as soon as more information is available.

For reference, the author of this article is a casual fan who only watched the first series, known among fans as "First Gundam," in one binge session about 15 years ago. Being more of an "Evangelion" generation viewer, I had forgotten most of the technical terms, side characters, and intricate lore of "Mobile Suit Gundam." Yet, I still found myself completely immersed and excited while watching the theatrical version of "GQuuuuuuX"!
