【Full Opening in February 2025】Yokohama Museum of Art

After closing in March 2021, the Yokohama Museum of Art partially reopened on Friday, November 1, 2024. The museum is set to fully reopen on Saturday, February 8, 2025. To commemorate this, the exhibition "Welcome Back, Yokohama" will be held, expressing the museum's wish to welcome diverse people under the theme of "Yokohama."

This exhibition will reintroduce masterpieces from the museum’s collection through fresh perspectives. It will also showcase works and materials from other institutions across Yokohama, including the Yokohama History Museum, Yokohama Archives of History, Yokohama Urban Development Memorial Hall, and Yokohama Civic Art Gallery.

Yokohama Museum of Art Renewal Opening Commemorative Exhibition: "Welcome Back, Yokohama"

The highlight of this exhibition is its focus on "Yokohama" and "diversity." Through paintings, photography, crafts, videos, and other media, visitors can explore Yokohama's lesser-known history in new and surprising ways. The exhibition spans from globally recognized modern art masterpieces by Cézanne, Picasso, and Magritte to contemporary works by artists such as Yoshitomo Nara. Additionally, there will be a "Children's Gallery" (tentative name) for young visitors to enjoy.

  • Closed: Thursdays (except March 20, a public holiday) and Friday, March 21

[Spring 2026 Opening] BASEGATE Yokohama Kannai

Developed on the site of Yokohama’s former City Hall in the Kannai area, "BASEGATE Yokohama Kannai" is set to open in spring 2026. The nearest stations are JR Negishi Line Kannai Station, Yokohama Municipal Subway Blue Line Kannai Station, and Minatomirai Line Nihon-Odori Station. Plans include connecting the facility to Yokohama Stadium and Yokohama Park via an elevated deck.

A standout feature is the edutainment facility "Wonderia," which blends play and technology. Visitors can enjoy immersive spaces created with projection mapping and other cutting-edge technologies.

Another highlight is "THE LIVE," a live viewing arena for Yokohama DeNA BayStars fans. It will feature a massive LED screen (18m wide and 8m tall) and advanced sound systems. Surrounding the screen will be eight restaurants and the "CENTRAL BAR," allowing visitors to enjoy sports games, concerts, and other live events with food and drinks.

One of Japan’s largest dining zones will also be part of this development. The "Stadium Side Terrace" commercial area and "The Legacy" in the former administrative wing will host 34 unique restaurants, including local favorites.

Wonderia, a new attraction opening in BASEGATE Yokohama Kannai, takes its name from the combination of "wonder," signifying amazement and curiosity at discovering beauty and novelty, and "-ria," which suggests a place or country.

At this facility, visitors can explore Wonderia Island, an immersive space created with projection mapping, encountering stunning landscapes and mysterious creatures. Using a smartphone, visitors can capture their surroundings to access information about the environment and the creatures they encounter. Wonderia offers a fully immersive experience designed to surprise, inspire, and provide new insights.
