Just about a 50-minute drive from Tokyo, this breathtaking event features an incredible 6 million lights. This year, a special new area called the San-X Characters Illumination has debuted, bringing together beloved characters like "Rilakkuma" and "Sumikkogurashi."
What Is Sagamiko Illumillion? A Certified Top Three Illumination in the Kanto Region!
Now in its 16th year, Sagamiko Illumillion offers visitors a dazzling spectacle of lights. Despite being just a 50-minute drive from central Tokyo, the event takes place across an expansive 40,000 square meters, utilizing the natural slopes and elevation changes of the landscape. This creates a unique blend of stunning illuminations and the surrounding nature, making it the largest illumination event in the Kanto region with 6 million lights. From 2018 to 2024, Sagamiko Illumillion has been officially recognized as one of the Top Three Illuminations in the Kanto Region. Additionally, at the "International Illumination Award" ceremony held on November 6, 2024, the event received third place in the Illumination Event Excellence Entertainment Award category.
Beyond the incredible lights, the resort offers plenty of other attractions. Visitors can enjoy dining at the "Wild Dining" restaurant, relax at the day-use hot spring facility "Sagamiko Onsen Ururi," or experience outdoor activities like barbecuing and campfires. Area 1: A Magical "Illumination Light Spot" Beyond the City’s Reach
Taking advantage of the area’s natural elevation changes, Sagamiko Illumillion offers a dreamlike experience with displays such as the "Field of Light Flowers," a vast pink-colored field, and the "Sea of Light," a mystical ocean of deep blue. These diverse zones create a stunning contrast of light and shadow within a tranquil forest illuminated by 6 million lights, providing an experience impossible to find in the bustling city.
One highlight is the 150-meter-long "Tunnel of Light," where visitors are fully immersed in 360 degrees of illumination, evoking a surreal and almost otherworldly sensation. As you wander further into the park, you’ll encounter the serene "Forest of Light," where lanterns suspended from above sway gently, creating a magical and romantic atmosphere.
Debuting in 2024 is the "Shining Forest Palace," a spectacular new attraction featuring a 15-meter-tall symbolic tree surrounded by illuminated walls, shimmering water reflections, and enchanting light showers from above.
Themed "A Musical Gathering of Forest Friends," this illumination show offers an immersive three-minute performance synchronized to Christmas songs played on various instruments. Starting in January, the show transitions to a spring-themed performance.
Area 2: Enjoy Night Attractions and Illuminations from the Sky
The aerial net adventure course "Hustle Spider" is transformed with colorful lights into the "Illuminated Aerial Athletic," offering an exciting play area immersed in light. Visitors can also enjoy a variety of attractions that showcase the illuminations from above, such as the "Rainbow Lift," a 250-meter-long chairlift ride that lets you take a magical stroll above the illuminations, the "Flying Swing," and the "Illuminated Ferris Wheel." These attractions make full use of the outdoor resort's unique terrain, providing breathtaking views of the light displays from the sky.
In Paddington Town, there are four night attractions to enjoy, including the "Charge! Paddington Explorer," a mini coaster that zips through a brightly lit course, and "All Aboard! Paddington Train," a leisurely and delightful light-filled train ride.
Area 3: Limited-Time "San-X Characters Illumination" for 2024
The special "San-X Characters Illumination," introduced this year, is located in an area at the mountaintop, accessible via the 250-meter-long, rainbow-colored "Rainbow Lift."
This area features numerous photo spots where you can take pictures with seven beloved San-X characters and their friends: "Rilakkuma," "Sumikko Gurashi," "Tarepanda," "Afro Ken," "Kogepan," "Nyan Nyan Nyanko," and "Sentimental Circus."
In the main area, the "San-X Characters Stage," a special illumination show unfolds with songs like "Ebi Ebi Everyday!!" and "Berry Huggy Korilakkuma." Afro Ken also makes an appearance, creating a dreamlike, magical space filled with charm and wonder.

① A Drone Light Show Featuring Sumikko Gurashi Characters
From the mountaintop area at an altitude of 370 meters, approximately 500 drones take to the sky in a stunning drone light show. Using the night sky as a canvas, the drones create beautiful depictions of "Sumikko Gurashi" characters. This spectacular show synchronizes with the glowing Ferris wheel, illuminated lifts, and the unique contours of the terrain, creating a breathtaking display that is truly unique to Sagami Lake Illumillion.

② Night Bubble Show with Enchanting Soap Bubbles
