One day is not enough! Must-see World Heritage Sites, Secret Hot Springs, and Sightseeing Spots in Nikko

The Nikko area in Tochigi Prefecture is a scenic natural paradise, boasting World Heritage sites such as the Nikko Toshogu Shrine, which enshrines Ieyasu Tokugawa, as well as the grand Rinnoji Temple and Futarasan Shrine. The area is also home to Senjogahara, a highland marshland registered under the Ramsar Convention, Kegon Falls, one of the "three best waterfalls in Japan", and the beautiful Chuzenji Lake.

The Nikko and Kinugawa areas are also famous hot spring resorts. Hot springs such as Nikko Onsen, Chuzenji Onsen, Oku-Nikko Yumoto Onsen, and Kinugawa Onsen are famed throughout Japan for their beauty and unique character.

For theme park lovers, Edo Wonderland Nikko Edomura, which centers around the Edo period, and Tobu World Square, which exhibits world-famous architecture on a 1/25th scale, are also recommended.

Nikko is also a great place to enjoy the spectacular scenery of Japan’s four seasons. In addition to enjoying the beautiful landscapes and architecture, visitors can try their hand at activities such as hiking, cycling around the lake, skiing, stand-up paddleboarding, and cruising on Lake Chuzenji. The charms of Nikko cannot all be experienced in a single day, so whether you are visiting for the first time or revisiting, we encourage you to stay a few nights and take your time to enjoy the area.
