Osaka’s iconic Dotonbori area is getting a fresh look with the "Kuidaore Building" set to undergo a full renovation, scheduled to be completed in spring 2025. The building will be transformed into a food entertainment complex, and a brand-new 3D figure of the beloved "Kuidaore Taro" will appear on its outer wall.
Facilities & Floor Layout (Partial)
The building’s exterior will change from its current design to one with a more dynamic, 3D look. The 1st to 3rd floors will each have their own concept designs, providing not only a variety of restaurants but also entertainment that enhances the overall experience of being in the building. Upgrades will include newly renovated restrooms on the 1st and 3rd floors for added comfort. The elevator and escalator areas will also receive a design update to improve visibility and flow within the building.
"Kuidaore Building" Exterior
Dotonbori is known for its eye-catching 3D signs, and the Kuidaore Building will fit right in. A massive 6-meter-tall 3D Kuidaore Taro sign will be featured on the outer wall, along with neon-inspired lighting to fully immerse visitors in the Kuidaore Taro world. The new design will also include LED displays, adding energy and a sense of excitement to the building’s appearance.
【1st Floor】Kuidaore Taro WORLD
The iconic "Kuidaore Taro," the symbol of both the building and Dotonbori, will remain a key attraction. The ceiling and walls will be boldly designed with Taro's signature colors, creating a vibrant world around him. The space will be transformed into a brand-new photo spot, perfect for capturing memories.
【2nd Floor】Shibaemon Tanuki Story
A new power spot will be introduced, where visitors can pay respects to Dotonbori's tanuki (raccoon dog) spirit. In the Edo period, a tanuki named Shibaemon from Awaji Island transformed into a human to watch plays by actor Kataoka Nizaemon at the "Nakaza" theater. However, one day, his tail was exposed, and he was bitten by a dog, revealing his true identity. After his death, the theater’s business suffered, but once they began honoring Shibaemon Tanuki as a deity, prosperity returned.
The space will feature a neon torii gate and stone-tile paths, evoking the feeling of a shrine. There will also be panels beside the torii explaining the history of Shibaemon Tanuki.
【3rd Floor】Nakaza Stroll Alley
A relaxing area will be set up under neon lanterns, offering a break in a space that recreates the atmosphere of a traditional playhouse tea shop. Additionally, the walls will be decorated with pine motifs, paying homage to the old Nakaza theater with a unique display.
