In July 2024, a new attraction called "VS PARK Yokohama World Porters" opened at the Yokohama World Porters, a large shopping and entertainment complex located about a 5-minute walk from Minato Mirai Station in Yokohama. It's gaining attention as a place where you can "experience indoor, over-the-top activities, just like being in a Japanese TV game show!"
Two members of the FUN! JAPAN editorial staff went undercover to check it out! They tried various activities and are here to share all the details. Since it’s an indoor facility, you can have fun even on rainy days!
What is "VS PARK"?
"VS PARK Yokohama" is run by Bandai Namco Amusement, a company that operates amusement venues such as game centers and theme parks. The Yokohama branch of "VS PARK" opened on July 18, 2024. The concept behind "VS PARK" is to offer a place where you can physically participate in over-the-top, indoor activities, feeling as if you were part of a Japanese variety TV show.
With 26 unique activities, including "Humor Ping Pong" and the "Rolling Tower," you can enjoy 120 minutes of non-stop action! It’s been a popular spot for letting loose since the first location opened in 2018 at Lalaport EXPOCITY in Suita, Osaka. Since then, "VS PARK" has expanded to nine locations across Japan, including Osaka, Kyoto, Fukuoka, Aichi, and Hiroshima.
For the best experience, we recommend visiting outside of Japan’s major holiday periods, such as summer vacation (late July to early September), winter break (late December to early January), and Golden Week (late April to early May). Weekday afternoons are generally less crowded. The facility also provides pamphlets and instructions in English and Chinese, so international visitors can enjoy the activities with ease.
A Step-by-Step Guide to Your Experience at "VS PARK"!
- First, check in. Pay the admission fee and receive important instructions and information.
- Store your belongings in a Locker. Place your bags or backpacks in the free lockers provided. If you have larger luggage, like a suitcase, you can use the coin lockers available inside Yokohama World Porters.
- Pick your favorite activities from the pamphlet! With 26 activities to choose from, it’s a good idea to plan ahead and decide which ones you’d like to try.
- Start the activity! Each activity has a "Start Button" nearby. Press the button to begin! The duration of each activity varies. If another guest is using the activity, please wait in line for your turn.
* Some activities do not have a "Start Button."
How to Fullyand Safely Enjoy "VS PARK"
Since VS PARK is an activity-based facility, there are a few things you should know beforehand to ensure a "safe and fun" experience. During check-in, you’ll be given a waiver form available in both English and Chinese, which you’ll need to read and sign. While the waiver covers essential details, here are a few important points to keep in mind before your visit. Make sure to read and understand them!
Age Requirement: Recommended for elementary school children and older. (Children younger than elementary school age and pregnant women are allowed to enter but cannot participate in activities. For other entry restrictions, please check the official website.)
- Height and Weight Restrictions: Some activities have specific height and weight restrictions. The number of participants allowed also varies by activity. Be sure to review the pamphlet carefully beforehand.
- Recommended Attire: Wear comfortable clothing like T-shirts and pants that allow for easy movement. We recommend wearing well-fitted sneakers. Avoid skirts, revealing clothing, sandals, high heels, or open-toe shoes.
- Accessories: For safety reasons and to prevent loss, remove earrings, necklaces, rings, watches, and other accessories before participating.
26 Activities to Try! With Reviews from Our Experience
VS PARK spans approximately 1,895.6 square meters and features 26 unique activities. Some are physically demanding, designed for those who are confident in their athletic abilities, while others are more relaxed and easy for anyone, even those less athletic, to enjoy. There are also activities suitable for all ages, and even those with limited mobility can find something fun to do.
The number of participants per activity varies—some are for individuals, some for pairs, and others for groups of 2 to 4 people. Even if an activity is limited to just one participant, it can be just as fun to watch someone else take part. So if you're in the spectator role, think of it as your "observation time" and enjoy the show!
Activities Requiring Two People for a Showdown
Poka Poka Stadium
In this game, you hold a large "Poka Poka stick" with both hands and try to knock your opponent off a narrow platform by pushing them. It’s a test of your balance!
~Experience Review~
30s Female: "This activity was great for stress relief. It’s really difficult to maintain your balance while the platform is shaking. Be careful not to get ‘poka poked’ in the face!"
- 30s Male: "You have to knock your opponent off while defending yourself, so it’s much more of a full-body workout than I expected. Even just standing on the platform makes you wobble and feel unstable. It really tests your ability to keep your center of gravity steady and your ‘core’ in check."
BOMBER ATTACK
Two people stand on a small platform and push a giant ball at each other, trying to knock the other person into a ball pit. You’ll find yourself getting really into it and shouting along with the game!
~Experience Review~
30s Female: "The giant ball is so big you have to hold it with both arms, and it’s tough to manage. The key to winning is catching your opponent off guard!"
- 30s Male: "At first, when I held the giant ball, it felt lighter than I expected, so I thought it wouldn’t have much impact. But once my opponent pushed it at me, it was strong enough to make me wobble. I couldn’t help but laugh and then... I fell. I lost, sadly."
Kirikirimai
This activity revolves around the theme of "cutting." Within the time limit, you must slice through as many glowing "slits" as possible. Strike cool poses like a samurai as you slash away!
Rocky Soccer
Players split into a goalkeeper and a kicker for a penalty shootout while standing on a foot reflexology mat. Endure the pain on the soles of your feet as you try to score a goal! Push through the pain and aim for that winning shot!
VS PARKOUR
Run, jump, and dodge while watching the screen! You’ll race through a course filled with obstacles that require a variety of movements—expect to get out of breath!
VS KUNG FU
In this activity, you must quickly match kung fu poses to holes cut out in boards. Even if you’ve never struck a kung fu pose before, now’s the time to forget your embarrassment and have fun!
~Experience Review~
30s Female: "This is a great warm-up before tackling some of the harder activities!"
- 30s Male: "Striking the poses was tougher than I expected! You need to sync your timing with your partner, which made it even more challenging."
VS SWIMMING
Race in a freestyle swimming competition while watching the screen. Move your arms quickly and forcefully to aim for victory! Even if you’re not a swimming expert, you can still enjoy this game.
QUICK PUSH ROOM
Compete to see how many glowing buttons you can push within the time limit. You’ll need to react quickly and move fast to hit each button as it lights up—this game is all about your reflexes!
QUICK PUSH TABLE
Hit as many glowing buttons as possible! The player who touches the most wins. As soon as a button lights up, you must swiftly stretch out and tap it—testing your reaction speed!
~Experience Review~
30s Female: "It was much more intense than I imagined. If you’re confident in your reflexes, definitely give it a try!"
- 30s Male: "It’s hard to keep up with your eyes, so the key is how wide you can expand your field of vision. It was long and quite tough—felt like I was doing some serious cardio!"
Activities you can enjoy solo or with two players!
Jump×Jump
For 60 seconds, dodge two rotating bars by jumping or ducking to avoid getting knocked off the platform! Sixty seconds may feel longer than expected, and it’s a full-body workout.
~Experience Review~
30s Female: "Of all the activities I tried, this was by far the hardest. I was out of breath by the end. Make sure to warm up properly before tackling this one!"
- 30s Male: "I couldn’t stop laughing, which made it hard to jump properly. I think I got the hang of it, though, so I’ll do better next time!"
VS ARCHERY
This game is like darts, but with an archery twist! You’ll compete for points based on where your arrows hit the target.
Soccer Darts
A fun mix of darts and soccer, this unique activity originated in the UK. Kick a ball at a giant dartboard and aim for the target to score points. It’s a game that quickly heats up as you get more competitive!
Drop Seesaw
Balance on a seesaw while watching the screen, skillfully rolling a ball down to the bottom goal. Using your body to move the object is harder than it looks!
~Experience Review~
30s Female: "It was my first time trying this activity, but I somehow got a perfect score! I think our teamwork was spot on."
- 30s Male: "I was able to communicate my movements to my partner well, and we worked together perfectly to finish it. It felt like such an accomplishment!"
Dota Bata Seesaw
Hop on a box-shaped seesaw, move from side to side to tilt it, and guide the character on the screen along their path to reach the goal.
Activities for up to 4 players to compete simultaneously
Humor PING PONG
Experience table tennis like never before with mini rackets or giant rackets! The mini racket makes it hard to hit the ball, and the giant one is heavy! Even just watching others try is a lot of fun!
PONG! PONG!
In this new digital ping pong experience, hit the ball to break blocks projected onto the table and compete for points. Even if you’ve never played table tennis before, anyone of any age can enjoy this activity!
ROLLING TOWER
Stack blocks one by one on a rotating table in this game of balance and strategy. The key to winning is to place your blocks in a way that makes it difficult for the next player to stack theirs without the tower falling.
~Experience Review~
30s Female: "I’ve seen this game on TV before. It looks easy, but it’s actually really hard when you try it yourself. I definitely want to challenge it again!"
- 30s Male: "I couldn’t place the blocks the way I wanted, and it was frustrating! If you stack too many at once, it gets unstable and nerve-wracking. Planning your moves carefully is crucial for winning."
Kick Target
Kick the ball at a tall stack of targets! If you knock them all down in one shot, it’s a huge success! Experiment with different levels of force and angles to find the perfect hit.
Beastampede
A wild beast (projected on the wall) charges toward you! What do you do? Dodge left and right to avoid it! If you stop, the beast will knock you out!
~Experience Review~
30s Female: "Even though I thought I was dodging, I wasn’t at all! Footwork is super important here."
- 30s Male: "Even if you exercise regularly, if your reflexes aren’t sharp, you won’t be able to dodge well. It was so frustrating! I want to lose some weight and get lighter before trying again."
Cart Coner
Race around a course on either the "INMOTION," which accelerates and brakes easily by leaning your body, or the "Plasma Car," which moves by simply turning the handle, with no gears, pedals, or batteries.
~Experience Review~
30s Female: "Since the other activities are quite intense, this one is great for a little break."
- 30s Male: "Super easy! It’s a fun way to race around without breaking a sweat!"
Human Tower Battle
Turn yourself into a “human-shaped block” by taking a photo in your favorite pose and stacking them up with other players. Make sure to coordinate your poses with your team!
~Experience Review~
30s Female: "I couldn’t get anything to work! Your sense of posing is key for this one. If you’re used to striking different poses, you’ll probably excel!"
- 30s Male: "If you’re not flexible, it gets tough! You need to strategize with your teammate, or you won’t get far. I felt embarrassed by my lack of skill, but I’m determined to give it another go!"
Challenge Puzzle
Compete to see which team can finish a giant puzzle (so big you need both hands to hold it) the fastest. There are over 200 possible solutions, so find your own way to complete it!
Activities that can be enjoyed by one person
NIGEKIRU
Choose your opponent from 9 different wild animals like cheetahs and Tyrannosaurus rex, and race against the projected animal (video) on the wall over a 10-meter sprint. If you haven’t sprinted in a while, you’re sure to be out of breath!
VS PK FOOTBALL
Kick the ball at colored panels to score high points. Since the distance from the kicking point to the target isn’t far, even beginners can enjoy it.
Slackline
Stand on a narrow 5cm-wide line and try various poses and tricks while keeping your balance. It’s only 5cm wide, so balancing while striking a pose is the challenge! It’s fun for spectators as well.
Billiards Corner
Play billiards on unique tables like round, triangular, and long tables that you’ve probably never seen before. Try this after more intense activities to relax and enjoy a slower-paced challenge.
