BEAMS JAPAN, the initiative from Beams promoting the charm of Japan, will open its new store, BEAMS JAPAN MAIZURU, inside the mixed-use commercial facility "atick" in Maizuru City, Kyoto Prefecture on September 14, 2024.
About Maizuru City, Kyoto Prefecture, where BEAMS JAPAN MAIZURU is Located
Maizuru, located in the northern part of Kyoto Prefecture facing the Sea of Japan (Hokuriku area), is known for its historical and cultural attractions. Notable sites include the "Maizuru Red Brick Park," featuring eight government-designated important cultural property warehouses, and various naval-related spots. The city also retains the atmosphere of its past as a castle town under the rule of the Sengoku period warlord Hosokawa Yusai, known for his contributions to waka poetry and the tea ceremony.
The Hokuriku area is also home to Japan’s three famous scenic views, such as "Amanohashidate," and the popular photo spot "Ine no Funaya." Additionally, the region boasts local specialties like traditional "Tango Chirimen" textiles, "Maizuru Crab," and "Kyoto Sawara," offering a rich array of attractions.
About Exclusive Collaborative Products at BEAMS JAPAN MAIZURU
For its exclusive store items, BEAMS JAPAN MAIZURU will offer a range of collaborations, including silk bags from Tango Chirimen Weavers Tayuu, items made from Tango Chirimen by Tate-tsunagi, and shopping bags from the locally focused supermarket Nishigaki. The store will also feature tote bags and pouches inspired by the paper pack design of Hiraya Milk, a long-loved local brand. Additionally, the store will showcase items created by local artists, such as pottery by DAISAKU and designs by the unit COCHAE.
The illustrations created by the design unit COCHAE feature the charm of Maizuru, including landmarks such as "Maizuru Red Brick Park," "Maizuru Crab," and "Kyoto Sawara."
Items inspired by the packaging design of the locally focused supermarket "Nishigaki" and the long-loved "Hiraya Milk" use 100% polyester fabric.
Pottery artist "DAISAKU" has created illustrations that express the essence of Maizuru.
The BEAMS JAPAN MAIZURU original products, based on the "white" color inspired by the sails of the Kitamae-bune (cargo ships) that made Maizuru a port of call from the late Edo period to the early Meiji period, are also featured.
