This latest addition to the series highlights Bizen ware, a traditional type of pottery from the city of Bizen in Okayama Prefecture. Bizen ware, one of Japan's "Six Ancient Kilns," has a history spanning over 1,000 years and has been recognized as a Japanese Heritage. It's made by hand from the region’s high-quality clay and fired without glaze at high temperatures, resulting in a natural, earthy texture and finish that’s unique to each piece.

The "JIMOTO Made Bizen Ware SANGIRI 355ml Mug" is crafted in collaboration with Shibaoka Tōsendō, a pottery studio founded in 1912, which is dedicated to preserving Bizen's traditional techniques. The result is a beautiful, timeless mug that combines the rich heritage of Bizen ware with Starbucks' signature touch.

This new product is crafted using the "Sangiri" technique, a signature of Bizen ware. The mug is fired in a wood-fired kiln, where charcoal is added during the process, creating unique and captivating patterns as parts of the piece are covered with ash. Since each mug has a one-of-a-kind appearance, finding your personal favorite becomes part of the fun.

The mug features a round silhouette inspired by coffee beans, while the handle is square, giving it a modern feel. The body is made thinner for a lighter, easier-to-use design.

Incorporating ideas from local Starbucks partners, the mug's surface features combed patterns symbolizing Okayama's three major rivers, providing a soft texture and a beautiful, hand-crafted look. The bottom of the mug is engraved with the names of Starbucks, Shibaoka Tōsendō (the maker), and Bizen, emphasizing its connection to the local community.

This handmade mug offers warmth and comfort, making it perfect for first-time users of Bizen ware or as a thoughtful gift. It reflects the passion and deep techniques of Bizen pottery, enhancing your coffee experience.
