Most Entertaining Prefecture “Tokushima”

Today I would like to pick up “Tokushima Prefecture” located in the eastern part of Shikoku since I joined the event of “Tokushima no Yube” in February 2nd, which introduced Tokushima’s “Awa-culture” and “traditional crafts and local product”.

Event contents
1) Speech by the governor of Tokushima
2) Japanese fantoccini show
3) Awa indigo dyeing Fashion show
4) Awa dancing performance

Around 300 people enjoyed the event which bring out all fascination points of Tokushima. We were attracted by the beautiful indigo dyeing products such as Japanese fan and dress, impressed by dynamic traditional dancing Awa-odori performance, and satisfied with delicious food made of Tokushima’s local products.

You can’t mention Tokushima without mentioning the Awa Odori Festival. An example of the traditional Bon Festival dances that can be seen around Japan, Awa Odori is said to be one of Japan’s “three great Bon Festival dances.”

Thinking next trip destination in Japan? Tokushima would be put in your list!

Tokushima is located in southern eastern part of Shikoku which can be reached from Osaka by high way bus in two and a half hours. You might go there when you arrive in Kansai airport in Osaka, but even if you are thinking to go traveling Tokyo, you could still enjoy Tokushima culture. That is Awa-odori festival held in Tokyo in summer.

Around 150 Awa dancers group show their dynamic dance on the street and 800 thousand people come to see their dancing. You cannot miss the event if you have a chance to come in the season!
