In 1980, the board chairman of Japan Men's Fashion Kyōichi Itō was moved by the American tradition of celebrating Father's day, deciding to create Japan's own Father's day committee. After this, the event of celebrating Father's day was undertaken on the 3rd Sunday of June every year.

Why do People Send Yellow Roses on Father's Day?

This is one of the campaigns from Japan's Father's Day Committee. In America, sending something with a yellow ribbon is said to symbolize "Wishing for a loved one's safety", so the same was to be performed in Japan. However, during Mother's day in Japan you would send a carnation, so, in turn, people started to send yellow roses instead of ribbons for Japan's Father's Day. Also, due to sunflowers being popular in America, some people in Japan choose to send sunflowers instead of yellow roses.

What do Japanese People Give as Presents on Father's Day?

Many of Japan's department stores start stocking presents for Father's day from the end of May. Most of these presents consist of things such as neckties, shirts, electronic shavers, bags, and more business-related items. There are also popular high-quality alcoholic items such as whiskey!
