“GAICA” is the first prepaid card in Japan which supports Visa contactless payment in both domestic and overseas affiliate stores. If you are interested in the GAICA prepaid card but do not know how to apply for it, please read this article as we are going to show you how to apply for your very own GAICA card!
The application will be done 15 minutes, if all required documents have been prepared in advance.

STEP 1 - Agree to Terms

Tick the box ( □ ) to confirm you agree to the terms above and then click on the "Agree and Continue" button to proceed to the next step.
STEP 2 - Fill out the Application
(1) Enter the required information on the application page; your name, address, phone number, email address, etc. and click “Continue”.
※Please ensure to select your “Purpose of transaction (use)” as it is a mandatory field.
※Once your plans are confirmed, please enter the information on the Member-Only Site as soon as possible. To update the information, click “Change of details TOP” → “(Other changes)” located on the home page.
※The above-mentioned information needs to be registered correctly in accordance to the terms and conditions. Please update the information whenever it changes.
※If the customer is a minor over the age of 13, consent will be required from a parent or guardian along with the input for the “Purpose of transaction” field.
（2）Double check the input information to confirm if it is correct, then click the “Submit” button.
STEP 3 - Upload Required Documents
There are two ways of uploading image files of the required documents.
(1) For those who have a digital copy of their required documents
Please click on the "Continue / Upload" button at the bottom of that page to upload it in the next step.
(2) For those who do not have a digital copy of their required documents
Please Upload it later via the link provided in the email titled "Request for ID Documents", which should be sent to your registered email address.
※Please ensure you have a copy as the documents that you submit will not be returned.

What are the Required Documents for Application?
For foreign residents (excluding special permanent residents), it is compulsory to submit your Residence Card (Zairyu Card). In addition, please submit 1 more document chosen from the following [Group A] or [Group B]. 2 documents in total are required.
※If the address you provided on the application form is different from that of [Group A: Identity Verification Document] , Please provide 2 documents from the following [Group B: Supplementary documents] with images. (Documents must have been issued within 6 months and contain your current address which you provided on the application form. 1 of the documents can be from a family member who lives with you)
Residence card (Zairyu card)
※Copies of both the front and back sides of the card
※According to the membership terms, foreign residents (excluding special permanent residents) are required to submit images of both sides of the card since August 2019.
【Group A：Identity Verification Documents】
●Passport
※The page with your picture and address.
●Certificate of Health Insurance
※The page with the applicant’s name, date of birth and address. Images of both the front and back are required.
●My Number (Individual Number) card
※Only the front side of the card (which includes your photo, name, date of birth and address) is required. No need to upload the back side.
●Certificate of Residence
※Only documents issued within 6 months. If your individual number is shown, please black it out prior to submitting the image.
【Group B：Supplementary documents】
●Receipt or payment certificate of national or local tax
●Receipt of social insurance
●Utility bill (i.g. electricity, water, gas, NHK TV)
※Documents that are issued within 6 months that contain your current address you provided on the application form.
After a successful application, the GAICA prepaid card will be delivered to your registered address.
